On a more subtle level, the worlds of the two movies share a general technological outlook.
The movie is really all about ideas. Both feature a semi-analog twist on modern digital tech - the bulky, grainy communication device in Moon fits right alongside Mute's sliding phone with buttons - and aim to evoke the style of 1970s/1980s sci-fi: Alien and Blade Runner especially. Sam begins to witness and experience strange occurrences in the station, soon discovering that, like Jack, he has “always been the caretaker”. It is something so close and so plausible and yet at the same time, we really don't know that much about it.
The movie won numerous film critic and film festival awards and was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best British Film, and won the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in 2010.
Even though Sam Bell is a clone, Jane Petrie still managed to infuse individuality through costume, thus allowing the viewer to differentiate between both Sams and helping Sam Rockwell to develop two distinct characters that generate an emotional connection. Once the script is done, they push the reset button and the cycle stars over again. In many ways he has a similar role to the Jack Torrance character in The Shining (1980).
Sam’s performance, as Sam Bell, in Moon is nothing short of captivating and highly entertaining.
Collectively, Petrie and Jones have utilised stylistic costume choices to differentiate between the two Sam clones.
If he was aware of the truth before the copies were made, how was he compensated in order to sell himself into endless purgatory?
